Cambridge Exams Have Names Have Changed

To make the progression from one exam to another easier to understand, we have introduced the CEFR level ( link to the CEFR PDF )to each exam’s name.

For example, Cambridge English: First (FCE) will now be known as B2 First. We will also continue to phase out the use of the old acronyms for our exams as the process for changing names will take time to implement.

You can see what this means for each of the Cambridge English Qualifications below:

Your Path to Learning English Step by Step

The Key English Test for schools is aimed at elementary level students and it covers all four language skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening. The students are expected to understand texts and simple directions. If you pass, you will prove you can cope with written and spoken English at a basic level.

The Preliminary English Test is designed to show that students can use their English in everyday situations when studying, working and travelling. The exam is offered in two versions: ‘for students’ and ‘for adult learners’. Both versions of the examination consist of three papers, which include all four language skills.

The First Certificate in English is offered in two versions: ‘for schools’ and ‘for adult students’. Both versions are at the same level and have the same format. The main difference between the two examinations is that the topics in the ‘for adult learners’ version have been targeted at the interests of adult students.

The Certificate in Advanced English can be used for work, study and immigration purposes. The exam is designed to allow students to obtain certification suitable for use in professional and academic life. CAE is accepted by more than 4,000 organisations all over the world.

The Certificate of Proficiency in English is the most difficult examination offered on the CEFR scale. The exam tests English skills at the highest possible level and shows that a candidate is able to communicate with fluency, using native speaker language and expressions. CPE is accepted by many educational institutions. Our centre will include this level in the examination calendar from 2023.
